Shine is a Non-Profit Community Outreach Program.
We serve 25 farms in the Villiersdrop/Vyeboom area in the Western Cape, South Africa.
Our aim is to improve the abilities, life skills and self-image of rural agricultural workers, families and children.
We do this through training programs and social activities.
We try to enhance community functioning and empower individuals to enable them to make a positive social and economic contribution to society.
We do not receive any state funding.
We have designed the project to be financially sustainable. Every farm and agricultural worker who is part of the project help take responsibility by contributing / paying for the program that is presented. Farms pay for the training and attendees pay for social events.
That means that we do not do free stuff. We make the magic happen by working hard and paying our way, because that is how the world works. We are SO proud to be able to say that. 😊

C*vid nearly broke us. 😳There is no way to deny that. We could do not do training or events in 2020 or 2021. We lost several member-farms & the current financial climate is quite crippling for anyone in the agricultural industry.

We have always had a fundraising shop, selling toys to anyone and everyone. We serve a very diverse clientele and offer toys to fit any budget. So, we launched the online store end of 2021. Read more about this soul stirring story on the About Us page.
All our Shine training programs focus on the individual and building capacity and interpersonal skills in each attendee. We believe an emotionally healthy individual can function better, work better and be the best version of him/herself.
We do training on any topic that is identified as a need by our member farms, including:
Building healthy relationships,
Prevention of substance abuse,
prevention of family and sexual violence,
healthy boundaries,
communication skills,
taking responsibility for our choices,
leadership training,
parenting skills,
training for farm creche workers,
nanny training,
cooking courses and the list goes on and on.
We also offer various statutory services to our member farms
Shine partners with the Department of Agriculture of the Western Cape and we are the proud hosts of the annual Presige Agricultural Awards for the EGVV region (Elgin, Grabouw, Vyeboom & Villiersdorp).
We have been hosting this competition since 2012 & love seeing the personal growth of attendees. This lovely initiative gives recognition to agricultural workers for their skills on farms & being part of our gorgeous country’s food security.
We try to broaden the horizon of the Shine community by exploring the world around us.
We have done crazy things like visiting the aquarium with 200 pre-schoolers, taking 150 teenagers to the Suidooster Festival, going to watch a Stormers vs Blue Bulls rugby game on Newlands Stadium with bus loads full of supporters, camping with 200 pre-teens all at once, bringing cheetahs to our youth festival & the list goes on and on. We annually take 1 500+ agricultural workers & their families to the beach. Yes. We do that.
We do celebrations for the youth, men, women, children and the elderly. We play dominos, go fishing, we model, we sing and dance, we hold music concerts that can rival any arts festival.
We think we are pretty cool in that way. We really do make magic happen.
